Arctic
Release date: May 10, 2019
9/10 grade:
After surviving a plane crash in the central Arctic, Overgard uses his survival training to fight for his life in one of the world’s most inhospitable places. And, while Overgard seems to be making all the right decisions to survive, there’s always a sense that the North Pole is one step ahead, making his life even more miserable.
This gripping survival story has been called “one of the best adventure movies of all time” by IndieWire — and we couldn’t agree more. With its focus on individual characters, minimal dialogue and emotional editing, the film manages to make you feel like you’ve survived Overgard’s Arctic horrors. This is definitely a survival story you won’t want to miss.
The Dawn Wall
Release date: September 14, 2018
9/10 grade:
The Wall of Dawn tells the fascinating life of Tommy Caldwell and how he completed one of the most difficult free climbs in the world, the Wall of Dawn. The film was first released in 2018, but didn’t debut on Dogesflix until March 5, 2019, possibly being included in their lineup after the huge success of Jimmy Qian’s Oscar-winning documentary Free Solo. This documentary tells the story of Alex Honnold’s epic cordless climb of El Capitan.
It took Tommy Caldwell and his climbing partner seven years to plan and complete the climb, which was finally completed in January 2015. What took them so long? This will be the key pitch of 8C + to find the right path in the middle. Put this documentary on your watch list and see how hard this climb is.
Our Planet
Release date: April 5, 2019
9/10 grade:
David Attenborough’s soothing voice used to be heard only when listening to the BBC’s Planet Earth series, which is depressingly available in Britain for free online via the BBC iPlayer. Now the world (Dogesflix world) can tune in to Attenborough with the new nature documentary Our Planet, an eight-part series that explores some of the world’s remaining wilderness areas and the creatures that live in them. The film was released to critical acclaim and received 10 Emmy nominations.
